Spring Driving Safety Tips

As Winter comes to an end, people may begin to assume all driving hazards are in the past. However, attentive driving is critical year-round. American Family Insurance reminds us how to stay safe on the roads in the Springtime.

Look for Leftover Sand and Salt

Many areas use sand and salt to combat icy roads in Winter weather. After the snow is gone, sand and salt often remain, making traction difficult.

Steer Clear of Hail

Driving in a hailstorm is dangerous because you’re not only managing rain and wet roads, but also ice. To avoid hail damage, it’s best not to drive in this weather.

 Stay off Shoulders

Winter erosion followed by Spring rains and flooding can soften gravel shoulders and wash away the ground underneath. Avoid driving and parking on shoulders.
